Carol Jaeger O’Neal
Beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend
November 8, 1941– June 11, 2025
Carol O’Neal, 83, passed away peacefully, leaving a legacy of love and grace. She was the devoted wife of her late husband and High School sweetheart, Richard Reid O’Neal, and the loving mother of her daughter, Robin Christine O’Neal. Carol is survived by her brother, Richard Jaeger of Orlando, Florida and also her grandchildren, Mallory Carol Riley, Amanda Jo Lawson and Jonathan Reid Matson and great grandchildren, Eli and Josephine Lawson, Sedona and Rosalee Riley who lit up her world and will carry her memory forward.
Born and raised in White Plains, New York, Carol moved to Alton, Illinois during her high school years. It was there she met the love of her life, Richard, and their journey together began.
Carol was a graduate of Denison University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology.
Carol had an impeccable sense of style and grace. A world traveler with a love for culture, Carol explored the globe with wide eyes. She had a passion for shopping, fine dining, and—true to her roots—Skyline Chili. She was an excellent cook, astute reader, known for her collection of giraffes, and enjoyed playing games (usually winning), as well as creating spaces that were at once comfortable and beautiful.
An extraordinary teacher to all, Carol will be remembered for her timeless beauty, elegance, wit, poise, playfulness and the way she touched the lives of all who were lucky enough to cross her path.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Sunday, June 22, 10am-12pm at Clovernook Country Club.
