Michael David Mahar Sr. September 28, 1957 - October 9, 2025

Michael David Mahar Sr. passed away peacefully on October 9, 2025, in Cincinnati, Ohio, following a courageous nine-month battle with a brain injury.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 28th, 1957, Mike moved with his family to Virginia a few years later and then to Bowie, Maryland, where he grew up. He attended Tulip Grove Elementary, Belair Junior High, and graduated from Bowie High School in 1977. In June that year he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a Security Forces Specialist until January 1981. His time in the service was a source of great pride and frequent stories.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and James Mahar, and his brother Ed (Karen). He is survived by his beloved partner of 14 years, Jo; his sons with his former wife Theresa Heigel, Richard (Kim) and Michael Jr.; his grandchildren Kellee, Michael III, Kyle, Emma, Bella, Tristan, and Tyler; and great-granddaughter Marceline. He is also survived by his siblings Ann (Frank), Bruce (Debbie), Jean (Neal), Brenda (Tony), half-brother Ron (Melissa), and half-sister Michaela, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.

Mike was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing—especially for bass—target shooting, and building model rockets. He enjoyed cruising with friends and family, swimming, reading fantasy novels like Conan, and listening to classic rock bands such as Pink Floyd and The Moody Blues. He cherished time spent with his sons, teaching them to fish and shoot, and taking trips to Ocean City and Florida.

Professionally, Mike worked in copy repair with companies like Capital Copy Products and later ran his own business, ASAP Office Equipment Repair, for many years.

In 2011, he moved to Kentucky, where he continued to enjoy the peace of nature and time with Jo and her grandsons, Johnathon and Jacob.

Mike will be remembered for his love for family, his adventurous spirit, and his unwavering pride for his family and children. He will be deeply missed.
