Mary Alice Belskis was born on November 16, 1950 to John and Nina (nee Burry) Belskis.  Mary was the first born child, followed by two brothers John Joseph Belskis in 1953 (now deceased 7/21/1985) and Brian Keith Belskis born in 1962. Mary’s parents preceded her in death in March 17, 1993 and November 24, 2010, respectively.  Mary suddenly passed away on February 13, 2015 after a brief illness.

Mary was raised in Dayton, Ohio and in the Dayton, OH public school system.  After graduating from high school, Mary attended the University of Cincinnati where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in June 1973 and an MBA in Finance and Management in June, 1979.

Mary began her work career in 1971 while a student at the University of Cincinnati working her way from Clerk positions and in 1983 was appointed as the Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences.  Mary continued her career in 1991 – 1993 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as the Associate Director, Office of Research Services; 1994 – 1995 at the University of Missouri, Columbia as the Grants/Contracts Administrator, Office of Sponsored Programs and in January 2000 returned to the University of Cincinnati as the Director, Institutional Research and Compliance Services.  Mary retired from this position in December 2005.

Mary enjoying working with her hands and created many needlepoint projects.  Many of her projects featured cats, which she had a great love for the nine cats she had over the years. She was a collector of anything that featured a cat motif.  Mary loved to read and watch scary movies. Mary served as a volunteer Community Representative on the University of Cincinnati Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee until the time of her death.

She leaves to mourn her passing, brother Brian Belskis of Dayton, OH, her niece, Vanessa Mitchell (Eric) and great niece Gwendolyn Mitchell of Troy, OH and many devoted friends who will truly miss her at monthly dinners. As per Mary’s request, no services will be held.

    So sorry to read of Mary’s passing. Worked with her at UC when she was Director of Sponsored Programs and I worked in the Department of Environmental Health. It was great knowing her and working with her. So very sorry for your loss.
